You can choose whether you want a traditional or modern appearance, and window grilles can be installed or removed. When it comes to window grilles, there is no one-size-fits-all solution. With a bit of patience, you’ll be able to easily remove and reinstall the exterior window grids in no time. ![]() Finally, apply a fresh coat of caulk to the window frame and reinstall the grids. Once the grids are off, use a vacuum cleaner to remove any dirt and debris, and a damp cloth to scrub away any leftover residue. Be sure to use a soft, non-abrasive material to avoid damaging the window frame. Then, use a putty knife to gently pry the grids off the window frame. To start, use a utility knife to cut the caulk that holds the window grids in place. Removing exterior window grids is a fairly straightforward process that can be done with minimal tools and effort. Removing window muntins is an involved process that should be done with care and caution. If you have a metal muntin, you may need to use a heat gun to soften the glue that is holding it in place. If you have a wooden muntin, you will need to carefully unscrew and remove the muntin pieces, taking care not to damage the glass. Depending on the type of window muntins, the process of removing them is not always straightforward. They can be a nuisance to clean around, however, and you may decide that you want to remove them. Window muntins are a common feature in many older homes, providing a decorative look and also providing a bit of extra insulation. Even though grids are an excellent inclusions in modern homes, you might be better off without them. Grids on windows are tedious to clean, but they keep your home’s view of the sun as clear as possible. Grids are saved for clean, un-gridded style in Ranch-style homes, bungalows, and modern neighborhood houses in Modern Homes. Installing window grids in your home is an easy way to increase the value of your home without having to spend a lot of money on the installation. Do Window Grids Add Value?Ī home owner who wants to increase the value of their home has a number of options to consider, many of which may be time-consuming and expensive. Today’s window grids are primarily decorative, in addition to being grilles or muntins. As a result, window panes were shipped further without fear of shattering the glass. The window grids were an important part of the design process in the past: they held together multi-paned windows. If your picture window can see over the back fence, you might want to take off the grids. Grids, despite their appearance, are also a source of frustration because they obstruct the view, making cleaning them difficult. ![]()

We had measured a similar figure on our Zen2 Renoir tests, so it’s all the more odd to now get a 31ns figure on the 3950X while on a different motherboard. For example, in this current version we’re seeing inter-core latencies within the 元 caches of the CCX’s falling in at around 30-31ns, however in the past we had measured on the same CPU figures in the 17ns range. We had noted some differences in the core-to-core latency behaviour of various Zen2 CPUs depending on which motherboard and which AGESA version was tested at the time. The Original Game: One of the real problems with the original release of Carcassonne was tile balance. In general the four different types of terrain could be pretty easily ranked. This week I’m going to concentrate on the “good” evolution of Carcassonne: how the classic expansions helped to balance the game and the tile mix (though we’ll also get our first hints at how the later expansions begin to turn from early ideals). There’s a number of huge changes in design between King & Scout and The Count of Carcassonne, as we’ll see. Second are the “later expansions”, which center on the two large supplements, The Princess & The Dragon and The Tower as well as the mini-supplement, The Count of Carcassonne, and the micro-supplement The Cathars. I also tend to include the mini-expansion, King & Scout, in this category. If you bought the gold-box Carcassonne that was sold in stores a couple of years ago, this was it. First is “Classic Carcassonne”, which is the original game plus the first two major supplements, Inns & Cathedrals and Traders & Builders. In my articles on Carcassonne‘s expansions I’m going to draw a distinction between two sets of supplements. The Tower. Introduces towers which can be used to capture nearby followers, or which can be “capped” by one of your meeples to protect your own. Fixes some of the field size problems of the original river, and also has a link to each of the major supplements to this point. The River II. Yet another alternative setup for the game: a 12-tile river, this time with a branch. Adds princess tiles which remove a meeple from a city. Adds magic gate tiles which let you place on any open, unoccupied region. ![]() Adds a fairy which protects from the same & gives points when a location it’s at is scored. ![]() The Princess & The Dragon. Adds a dragon which removes meeples. (An exclusive micro-expansion I mention it here for completeness, and I’ll include it in my various charts, but don’t think it has much relevence to the evolution of the game.) The Cathars. Adds Cathars besieging cities, who decrease the value of the city to knights, but increase its value to farmers. Adds a Count who can allow players to move meeples to regions just as they close & score. The Count of Carcassonne. Adds a new starting setup to the game: a 12-tile city. King & Scout. Gives VPs to players who close the biggest road and city. Adds builders, which allow faster building of one city or road. Adds pigs, which increase the value of one field. Traders & Builders. Adds cities with goods a player closing a city now collects goods, worth VPs at the end for majority control. ![]() (Originally published as “The Expansion”.) Adds a “big meeple” who is worth double the value of the other meeples in token conflict. ![]() Inns & Cathedrals. Adds inns, which made roads worth double or nothing, and cathedrals, which made cities worth triple or nothing. (Now available as part of the base game.) The River. Adds a new starting setup to the game: a 12-tile river. But first, a brief overview of all the supplements to date.Įach supplement adds new tiles to the game, but also provides some big new ideas: Over the next few articles in this series I’m going to examine those supplements, to show how they’ve evolved the SdJ winning Carcassonne‘s gameplay. Nine supplements of various sizes have slowly expanded that base game, moving it in various directions (and not always the ones suggested by the original game). However, Carcassonne is a lot more than than just the basic game. In my first article in this series, I talked about the design of the game Carcassonne, breaking it down by parts and seeing how they all work together. ![]() ![]() ![]() Collapsing the stack will consolidate all operators from the bottom of the stack to a specific operator into a single baked operator node. During these times the rate of bone lengthening exceeds the rate of mineralization, which leaves these children more susceptible to fracture with even minor trauma. These peaks relate to the decreased level of skeletal mineralization and density that exist during pubertal growth spurts. In children, the peak incidence of DR fractures is 12-14 years old in boys and 10-12 years old in girls. The two most common age groups are children less than 18 years old, and adults greater than 50 years old. However, there is largely a bimodal distribution of these injuries based on age and sex. It is also possible that increased access to care has led to an apparent increase in fractures while the true incidence has remained stable.ĭR fractures can occur at any age. Another theory advanced is that increased participation in organized sports has led to more childhood DR fractures. ![]() However, the general thinking is that increased childhood obesity and the overall potential for people to live more years with comorbidities such as osteoporosis have primarily contributed to this problem. It is difficult to attribute the growing incidence of DR fractures to any single cause. This study also showed statistically significant increases for the 17-64 year age group. Another 2017 study by Jerrhag et al., from Sweden showed a 2.0% increase in DR fractures per annum in men and a 3.4% increase in women aged 50-59 between 1999-2010. For example, a 1998 study by Melton et al., from Rochester, Minnesota in the United States documented a 17% increase in DR fractures between 1945-1994. The overall incidence of DR fractures occurring each year is increasing worldwide. With the exception of the 18 to 34-year-old age group, DR fractures are the most common upper extremity fracture. Distal radial and ulnar fractures account for approximately 25% of these fractures. For example, in the United States, there is an incidence of around 67 upper extremity fractures per 10,000 people annually. The mechanism for these fractures is often more complex or atypical than that of isolated DR fractures.ĭistal radial fractures are very common either in isolation or in concert with other fractures and injuries. DR fractures can also present in more complicated injury patterns such as the Galeazzi fracture-dislocation, both bone fractures, radial styloid fractures, and Barton’s and Chauffeur’s fractures. In children and adolescents, isolated DR fractures are more frequently the result of high energy falls sustained on the playground or during sporting events. They are often comminuted and intra-articular fractures that often fall outside of traditional eponymous classification. DR fractures in the elderly are often the result of low-energy falls from a standing or seated position. These fractures most frequently occur as a result of fall on the outstretched hand (FOOSH) injuries. ![]() Isolated DR fractures typically include Smith’s, Colle’s, Torus/Buckle, Greenstick, Die-punch, and isolated radial shaft fractures. This chapter will review the epidemiology/etiology, as well as the eponymous fractures, management, and complications of distal radial fractures.ĭistal radial fractures can result from any trauma to the forearm. Providers must have an understanding of forearm and wrist anatomy, and the recommendation here is that that readers review this topic in conjunction with this article. It is crucial for providers to understand these distinctions, to know which fracture patterns are emergent, and to refer for further management in an appropriate time frame. Fracture patterns, management, and complications differ between these age groups. ![]() ![]() Distal radial fractures are seen predominantly in children/adolescents and the elderly. The incidence of radial fractures is increasing as life expectancy grows, leading to a larger population of patients who are at risk for these injuries. Fractures involving the distal radius (DR) of the forearm are common. It is essential for most providers to feel confident in the management of fundamental orthopedic problems.
